Manchester's pet cemetery
Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 12:28PM When by chance I happened upon this sign yesterday just south of Manchester Airport, I made an immediate left hand turn:
A pet cemetery in Manchester (okay, technically Londonderry, but within spitting distance of the city line)? This I had to see.
Pulling up, this is what I spied:
Two headstones flanked by American flags caught my attention. Pet heroes? Could it be? Upon further inspection, I saw the headstones belonged to two police canines from the Manchester and Londonderry police departments:
Next I came upon what I can only assume are the graves of a lesbian pet couple:
Finally, I saw the most elaborate headstone in the joint. It marks the final resting place of Buffy, whose picture was on the cemetery sign and who I assume was inspiration for the cemetery:
How about that?

Hi. I came across your blog on facebook. This post caught my eye. Buffy was actually the mascot of a gas and service station on the intersection of Routes 3 and 28. They used to have a statue of Buffy in front. She's gone now, but I remember her every time I drive by.
Angelica, thanks for sharing this information!
Think it's the same Buffy? Yes the gas station with the pile of gravel with a statue of Buffy sitting atop and just below the gravel mound was a giant water dish so your pooch can slurp while you pump.
I wonder if you kept walking just passed the pet cemetery... would you find an ancient Indian cemetery? Ya know... where pets come back to life and maybe lil' boys named Gage?
I personally think the whole idea is.. well, weird... perhaps it's because I am not a pet owner...
